LUPIN (LUPINE)

Lupin (lupine), a legume belonging to the same plant family as peanuts and soybeans, can serve as a rich source of protein and is being increasingly used in bakery, confectionery, snacks and pastry products world wide. EU directive 2007/68/EG and EU regulation No 1169/2011 identify lupin as one of Europe's 14 allergens subject to regulation. Recently, the Food Standards agency for Australia and New Zealand announced that they were "assessing if lupin should be regulated as food allergen."
