Coconut ELISA Kit - 96 wells
Coconut is botanically considered a fruit but is often classified as a tree nut. Consequently, there is little allergic cross-reactivity between coconut and true tree nuts. Coconut-derived ingredients are increasingly being used in a variety of foods and beverages making BioFront's MonoTrace ELISA kit a critical food safety diagnostic tool. It is also one of few rapid diagnostic methods in use to detect Coconut, and the most sensitive quantitative test available to the food industry.

THE MONOTRACE ADVANTAGE
BioFront Technologies has developed the first comprehensive line of monoclonal antibody-based ELISA assay kits (MonoTrace ELISAs) for the detection of food allergen contamination in various food samples and environmental surfaces. The MonoTrace Coconut ELISA incorporates the use of a precisely defined set of handpicked monoclonal antibodies selected after a rigorous screening process for their ability to:
- Target a highly stable allergen resistant to food processing effects
- Recognize a carefully selected target protein to eliminate cross-reactivity and reduce the possibility of 'false positive' results
- Perform well in a wide variety of food products with negligible food matrix interference
The assay exhibits strong reactivity to coconut (Cocos nucifera). At concentrations as high as 100,000 ppm, the assay shows no cross-reactivity to other tree nuts. When assaying legumes, seeds, flours, and spices, minimal cross-reactivity was observed to mustard seed (0.001%), sesame seed (0.0014%), sweet rice (0.0015%) and white rice (0.0014%).
The MonoTrace Coconut ELISA kit is suitable for the qualitative or quantitative detection of coconut in
various food matrices, including cakes, cookies, chocolates, ice cream, yogurt, milk, and spice products. Chocolate, ice cream, and spice extractions require the addition of 5% (w/v) nonfat dry milk (NFDM). This extraction additive is needed for samples containing polyphenols, which include: chocolate, fruit, tea, coffee, red wine and soybean as well as others not listed here. Recoveries were within the acceptable range, as defined by current AOAC guidelines (J. AOAC Int. 2012). In summary, coconut protein was efficiently extracted and detected from common food matrices and spices using the MonoTrace Coconut ELISA.
Other matrices may also be suitable for use with the MonoTrace Coconut ELISA kit. Contact BioFront Technologies technical support (email@example.com) for assistance to determine whether your matrix-of-interest has been validated (cross-reactivity & recovery). A user internal validation using a coconut-spiked sample is recommended to ensure that coconut is efficiently recovered before qualitative or quantitative results are obtained from the kit.
